Avoiding Certain Foods That Can Cause Heartburn

Acid reflux can be excruciating. One of the worst things about heartburn is that it often occurs at night, stopping you from getting a full night's sleep. Waking up untested can add more stress to your life in turn increasing the chances of another acid reflux attack.

The key to stopping acid reflux is to understand what it actually is. Heartburn occurs when the stomach produces an overabundance of stomach acid. With no where to go and nothing to digest it travels over the stomach and into the esophagus. Unlike the stomach the esophagus's inner lining is not meant to handle such powerful acid. This is why heartburn is so painful, the stomach's acid is literally eating away at the esophagus's lining. This is not only excruciating but can also become very dangerous if it happens often enough.

There are many medications that can help you control and prevent heartburn. There is no shortage of medications from over the counter medicines like Tums or Prilosec to doctor proscribed medication for extreme cases of heartburn. Many times the best way to avoid heartburn is by abstaining from the foods that are known to cause it.

Here are some foods that you may want to avoid:

Citrus Fruits - Fruits like oranges, lemons and grapefruits are full of citrus acids that may increase your risk of acid reflux especially on an empty stomach.

Tomatoes - Contrary to what you may think tomatoes are extremely acidic and may cause heartburn.

Garlic and Onions - Garlic and onions have also been known to cause an acid reflux attack in many people.

Spicy Foods - This is a no brainier but if you are prone to acid reflux attacks, stay away from any spicy foods.

Alcohol - The over consumption of alcohol will cause heartburn.

Peppermint and Spearmint - If you think that sucking on these mints will sooth your acid reflux you may actually be making it worse.

Caffeine - Drinks like soda and coffee are high in caffeine. This will stimulate the metabolism and increase stomach acid.

Meats and Cheese - Meats and cheese that are high in fats are known to cause higher amounts of stomach acids.

Steering clear of these types of foods may help you avoid painful heartburn attacks.

What to do when you miss days on control pills

The majority of women use the pill as their primary source of birth control. This is because it is one of the more inexpensive types and is much more certain then a condom. The only problem with this birth control method is that it can be challenging for the woman to remember to take the pill everyday.

Don't panic! There is a way in which you are able to make up for this. The moment you realize that you have missed a pill is the time when you have to take it. It is the quality of the food that is important, not the quantity.

Furthermore, satisfy your child's sweet tooth by serving nutritious fruit based desserts. You can occasionally add the delight of ice cream but not too often. Aside from that, try serving food in attractive ways like cutting vegetables in odd shapes, decorating with ketchup or herbs. Presentation matters to kids, the more attractive it is; the more likely they are to try it.

In conclusion, keep your child happy by serving foods in ways they would happily eat. During those frustrating moments at the dinner table, handle those situations with patience, a positive attitude and firmness. Don't be aggressive or emotional.

Eating well and taking time to eat gives them the example they need to understand that their body is all they have. Prevention is the key. It's not important that they finish all you give them, children know when to stop, if you let them.

Stress is a huge problem for parents. Kids make stress part of their day. Stop it right in it's tracks. No appointment or schedule or bus is more important than their lives. Stop them now.
Children do not understand stress and their bodies can cope with stress better than you can.

10 Natural Ways to Treat Minor Burns

1. It sounds obvious but the most important thing is to remove the source of the burn. If there is clothing burning, remove it straight away. Things like hot toffee need to be washed off immediately.

2. Do not use butter or any of those other old wives remedies. Cold water is the only thing you should put onto a burn.

3. Run cold clean water over the burn to clean it and take out any heat. This may take twenty to thirty minutes. A doctor should check any burns to a baby or to an elderly person, immediately. For anyone else, small first or second- degree burns can be treated at home.

4. After cooling the burn with clean cold water the injury can be gently wrapped with a clean, dry cloth like a gauze pad.

5. Leave it for 24 hours. Let the healing begin without poking, prodding or peeking at the wound.

6. Every day clean the burn with plain soap and water. Remove any peeling skin gently, and then keep it covered, dry and clean.

7. Aloe Vera is a soothing treatment for burns. It eases the pain and speeds healing. Break off a stem and peel away the outer skin. The gel like flesh underneath can be rubbed gently onto the burn.

8. When the healing is underway, break open a capsule of vitamin E and gently rub into the burn. It helps the healing and prevents scarring.

9. You can use an antibiotic ointment if you choose. The wound and the area around it need to be kept perfectly clean. If you feel soap and water are not enough you can use an antibiotic ointment or a solution of Betadine or similar in the water.

Nutrition-Are You Unhappy With Your Body?

Is your body unhappy? Think about this for a second and assume an out of body experience. Imagine you are out looking at yourself. What do you see? Make a mental picture and print the results. What do you want to see?
If you are unhappy with your body, you need to evaluate what type of fuel your are putting into yourself. Here is what you need to do:
Make a list of all the food products you are eating consistently that you think are making your body unhappy.
Create another list of healthy foods you think would make your body happier.
Ask your partner or family members to do their own lists and when you are done make a master list of both types of foods you think you should feed your bodies to make them happy (this step is a suggestion, but only after you have made your list).
Evaluate your lists and give every food product you identified a reason that it makes your body either happy or unhappy.

Substitute an unhappy food by a happy food without giving any thought as to how"good" the product is but by how happy you think your body will be. Be true to yourself here, this game is your life, really choose products that will make you happy. Your mind is a unique part of your body. Nutrition to your brain is different than nutrition to your stomach. Your mind will help create the results you want and feel in your heart.

Stop playing games with diets, exercise, body size, personal appearance etc.

Be happy and make your body happy. Having a happy body starts by realizing that you need to trust yourself enough to make the right choices. In order to make decisions you need to have the right information. Your body is a miracle. You are the only you on earth. You can learn how to make the right decisions.

Remember, you are the only person that can visualize what you want to look and feel like. When you eat, never accept to be unhappy again. Food for thought.

Step three should be pretty simple...clean out your car, your home and even your desk of all things smoking related. Throw out cigarettes, lighters, matches and ashtrays. If you keep anything because you simply can't part with it all, keep in mind that one moment of weakness can ruin your entire stop smoking campaign.

The last step is to stay focused. Wouldn't it feel good to tell people you quit? A helpful tip for this step is to leave yourself notes with words of encouragement or anything you need to keep the goal in sight.
